Community Champion: Norm Mason

May, 2011

This month's Community Champion recognition belongs to Norm Mason, the founder of Angels of Assisi and Harmony Farm Sanctuary.

Angels of Assisi is the area’s local no kill animal shelter. Since 2001, Angels of Assisi has provided over 75,000 low cost spay and neuter surgeries, 34,000 feral cat sterilizations; and, they have facilitated 5,000 adoptions. Angels of Assisi opens it doors to animals in all kinds of situations; rescues from puppy mills, hoarder situations, the old, the sick, homeless, orphaned, abused, or unwanted are all welcomed at Angels of Assisi. They have even partnered with Botetourt County Law Enforcement, to give the victims of animal cruelty a second chance. Many of these animals normally would be deemed as unadoptable and killed, but with Norm’s help they can now be rehabilitated and become some family’s loving pet.

Norm was cited as someone whom, “never wants, or, seeks out credit for any of the amazing accomplishments Angels of Assisi has been responsible for, yet continues to fly under the radar making a difference for this community and beyond.”

Norm’s giving nature isn’t limited to house hold pets. The founding of Harmony Farm Sanctuary now gives a home to over “200 cows, pigs, sheep, goats, chickens” and even a donkey!  Harmony Farm’s mission is to end cruelty to farm animals and promote compassionate living through rescue, education and advocacy.” Big, small, young, old, sick, abused, neglected, or just a little hyper active, Norm Mason has created safe environments for unwanted animals to find their new forever home.

Lets all stop and say a hearty job well done to Mr. Norm Mason, our May 2011 Community Champion.
